McGan Technology’s MicroMed Demag-2000 is an ideal instrument that used to demagnetize surgical instruments. It is compact and can be easily moved to other stations in the Central Sterile area. Most surgical instruments are made of stainless steel and other blended metals that can easily become magnetized due to the various cleaning, polishing and repairing functions found in central sterile or from being close to a magnetized item. Any magnetized instrument will become a major issue in the operating room by having the potential of instruments adhering together in the tray, or having metal fragments adhere to the instrument. Needle holders are typically made of Titanium and Tungsten materials that are anti-magnetic however the needle may become magnetized and may warp during the surgery making it impossible to utilize effectively.
