McGan Technology’s MicroMed MM-5kV electrosurgical insulation defect detector is a compact, hand held, battery operated unit that may prevent inadvertent burns and external skin injury which occur during electrosurgical instrument procedures when the electrosurgical instruments have defects, ( sometimes called pinholes) in the insulation - electrosurgical instrument insulation failure. Insulation failure happens over time, through normal surgical use. The insulation failure provides an alternate pathway for the current to leave the instrument's electrode commonly resulting in a skin/flesh burn. Using an electrosurgical test equipment maintenance program can greatly reduce the number of inadvertent burns during electrosurgical procedures.
